‘Tis the season of spending hours untangling Christmas lights, unpacking ornaments, and digging around the attic for nutcracker soldiers and stockings. As much of a hassle it can be, the ends always justifies the means. Fortunately, your Columbus mover, E.E. Ward Moving & Storage Co. is about to share with you some great tips on how to better pack your Christmas supplies to save yourself from the hassle next year. This is part of E.E. Ward’s plans to help you stay organized.
Organizing
Staying organized for the Christmas holiday can be a very big time saver. If you like to create the same fireplace scene, pack all the items in the same box (i.e., candles, ornaments, stockings, etc.). This can save time digging around for the right items, while at the same time, it leaves open the possibility for someone else to set up the area. Since everything is altogether, the possibility for error is ever slimming!
As simple as it may sound, labeling is one of the most important things one can do. Christmas only comes around once a year. Remembering what each box is holding can be a daunting task. You can organize by where in the house it is placed, (see tip one) or by putting like objects together.
Packing
Objects like ornaments can be difficult to pack for how delicate they can be. Depending on the size, egg cartons can be a great common household item. You can put a layer or two of tissue paper on the bottom and top of the carton for cushion protection. Another very useful item to pack such objects is an empty wine box. These boxes have the dividers necessary to hold and organize your ornaments. Detach the hooks from the ornaments to keep them from getting scratched.
There are many tricks one can follow to become a more efficient packer. To keep those Christmas lights from tangling, purchase spindles to wrap the cords around. Try buying multiple small spindles; buying one spindle for all the cords can still create the possibility of entanglement. Store the candles in old socks or knee high stockings, this will prevent the candles from being scratched. Another easy trick for safe packing would be sealing a ziplock sandwich baggy full of air. These bags can be used to pack objects in more tightly yet act as bubble wrap. Refrain from using plastic ornament containers for your vintage ornaments; their resealable lids trap moisture, which can damage older decorations. But plastic is fine for other ornaments and Christmas decorations such as garlands and lights.
If done well, unpacking Christmas items can be very easy and even help you become even more efficient when setting up. There are so many tricks one can follow to be successful. E.E. Ward Moving & Storage Co. will be here with many more tips to become a master packer.
