There are 17 high-tech arches spanning High Street, which are the architectural signature of theShortNorth. These high-tech arches were set out to celebrate the centennial of the creation of the Northwest Territory in 1888, when Columbus was known nationwide as “Arch City.” The individually programmable lights can be turned any of a million colors, providing a mile-long rainbow, which has become the hallmark of the district.
Murals made by Young Professional Working Artists are installed onthe exterior brick facades of 11 buildings along High Street in the Arts District, which present the second iteration of the highly popular Short North Temporary Mural Series. The series as a whole, reflects the individual perspectives or viewpoints of these artists.
Known as Columbus’ “art and soul,” the culturally rich Short North is pioneering the urban revitalization of Central Ohio. Visitors are invited to explore this vibrant area known for the wide variety of amazing art, dining, nightlife, fashion, home décor, and unique gifts.
Gallery Hop -Thousands of visitors converge on High Street to celebrate art throughout the evening with new gallery exhibitions, street performers, special events, food, and drinks throughout the District. It occurs every first Saturday of each month. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art.
